September 28 in the Czech Republic is St. Wenceslas Day, AKA Czech Statehood Day. The date marks the anniversary of the death of the Duke of Bohemia Wenceslas in 935, when he was murdered by his brother Boleslav who didn't agree with Wenceslas' willingness to submit to the Germans. Wenceslas is now the patron saint of the Czech Republic, and his likeness can be found among the magnificent statues that line the Charles Bridge in Prague.
