The Klementinum was founded in 1556 by the Jesuit order after their arrival in Bohemia, and housed the library of the Jesuit College and later of the combined Charles University. This Baroque library has been in use as the Czech National Library since 1990. It is home to many important historical texts such as the Vyšehrad Codex, written in 1085 to recognize the coronation of the first King of Bohemia Vratislav II.
